Visiting Jamestown

Visiting Jamestown

Sunday April 30, 2023

This morning we got up together again and it rained all day again. It did stop twice that I could go out and squeegee the camper, my favorite thing. Makes it look so much cleaner, except where it doesn't get wet at all on the side under the bedroom slide. We stayed in all day besides that.
I also stripped the bed and washed our sheets, did a load of towels, our switch it up sweatshirts, and hand towels.
I ended up calling my brother Drew in the morning and talking with him over an hour. So looking forward to going upstate.
Since it was  another rainy day we couldn't grill. So I had to made chicken Condon Bleu and unfried chicken for dinner in the convention oven. It took forever compared to on the new Ninja Woodfire Grill.
In less then15 minutes it would have been done. Oven inside took 25 minutes and then I added another 15 minutes, way to long.

Then later I called Travis chatted with him and Mia for awhile and I called Thomas too,  he did not answer, but called me after dinner later in the day.
So looking forward to seeing everyone.
Planning a trip tomorrow to do fun things.

Visiting  Jamestown
Today Jim was up almost an hour before I was. We did our normal morning routine and I packed a lunch for our travel day to Jamestown. First we went back to the battlefield and did our driving tour. It was a beautiful day today although quite cool about 62 for a high. We had some nice Sun and cloudy.
Battlefield the 2 right pictures

Turtles on a log in the water and these trees are so old, wonder if they were here back then, there probably not over 400 hundred years old.
It was a very, very windy day made it quite chilly.
This is Redoubts 9 and 10 that they built to hide in.
Touch pictures to read

This is the Yorktown National Cemetery.
Of the 2,183 buried only 747 are identified.

Then we went to Jamestown and paid for the museum. We ended up walking up on a tour that had already started. The lady that spoke was really great to listen to, told so many stories and all the hardships of anybody who entered Jamestown. Especially the woman. When we joined the tour she was talking about Pocahontas. How she married at 14.
This sign tells more, enlarge to read, with Jim's finger, lol
Ann was such a great tour guide, she even had pictures to share of digs, and what they found etc.
We went into the church to get out of the wind.
Hundreds and hundreds of years ago was not a fun place to be.
Here is the Jamestown Ferry, you can see the cars on it too.
After the tour we went into a coffee shop on the property we shared a cup of coffee although it was horrible. Was so cold,, Then we went into a gift shop can't believe how expensive the Things Are. There's constant Digging still going on today for artifacts.

Few things inside the gift shop.
The coolest thing in the one Museum was this tiny container that was found over 400 hundred years ago and they had reproductions made they were selling. It was probably less than 3 inches tall and less than an inch and a half in circumference, I forget it was something like $27. I wish I would at least take a picture of it.

After a very full day of touring Jamestown it was getting later than we had anticipated. Decided we wanted Pizza and found a local pizza place to have dinner.
We each brought half of ours home for later and we shared a chef salad. Aldi's is right next door,  so I ran in for more chicken. Then we filled up with diesel and headed  back to the RV.

We had a great drive home on the Colonial National Historical Parkway. No traffic as you can see. Such a good time of year to be here apparently.
What a great day we were gone over 10 hours today.
