BAD Moving Day

BAD Moving Day

Monday March 20, 2023

Today started out like any other moving day. We got things put away about 10:00 a.m.. Kathy stopped to say goodbye. When we felt like we were close enough to hook the truck up, I called and asked if a ranger could come help guide us out. Cuz yesterday they put another fifth wheel right next to us. So we were sandwiched between a motorhome and a fifth wheel.
So Bill arrived to help Jim. He was the man we met yesterday with Kathy and Timmy. He was lovely and a big help to Jim. We pulled out just after 11:00 a.m. heading towards TTO.
We were only 15 or 20 minutes out. Jim was at a red light, making a right turn. The opposing traffic stopped, and our light turned green. He started making his right hand turn, he was moving to the Middle Lane, cuz he had to go to the left soon. And all of a sudden the little red Honda, that was across the intersection made a left turn and was right next to us flying. BOOM, we met in middle lane and Jim says, he lost.
We pulled over to the center median. Everybody was okay. To me it felt like he hit us in the driver side door. But later I realized he didn't. We actually connected at the corner of the front bumper and tire,  as we tried to turn away from him. The Camper was fine.
A guy pulled over and said he saw the whole thing, he was going the opposite direction. But was going to make a u-turn and coming our way. He said I can be a witness, he saw the whole thing. We took his name and number and he left. Once the cops showed up, he had talked to both drivers.
The cop wanted us to pull ahead and go to the right side of the road. Which was a lot safer spot to be. Later I got out cuz I wasn't in traffic anymore, and walked up and took as many pictures as I could.
We push him  into the median where there was a storm drain, and his car hit the curb and bent his tire. He was unable to drive, and a rollback came and put the car on it.
The truck damage.

Jim showed him all the proper paperwork. Later the cop called the witness, and he came back to the scene and gave his statement.
Jim and I talked to him briefly. He said he felt like the guy was just trying to get around us quickly, and was going really fast. He was very nice and recently moved into The Villages. He was just picking up a rental car when the accident happened.
The cop told us it was partially both drivers fault, as we were both heading to the Middle Lane, and should have stayed in our lanes.
The cop said call your insurance company ASAP and tell them no injuries, and no citations, let them do the work.  We were able to leave, was about an hour later.
How scary continuing to drive after that. We were both okay, but a little shaken. Could have been so much worse, we kept thinking.

We arrived at TTO, was about 1:30 at this point. We met with Rick and he parked us back in H section alongside the golf cart path that connected to our last Loop we had at one point here. It was hot and sunny, but Jim set up, I got us some lunch, pretty quickly as it was way after 2:00 and by now.

After we ate we called the insurance company. Then  you have to go over all the details again. He made it sound like they would being investigating, mainly to check out the red light, that the other guy was at. To see if he ran one, we'll see what they find out.

After that we took a golf cart ride. And later Jim called the insurance company gave him an approved number to check out the truck. We just wanted to make sure everything was okay behind the tire and get an appraisal.. it was called Gerber Collision. Jim will take it tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.. we didn't do much else the rest of the day. Besides have dinner and try to relax.
Our new site late in the day.
Nice quite H loop, nice to have concrete.

Tuesday March 21, 2023

I went up to walk fit and line dance this morning I was ready to come home at 12:30 Jim went to have the truck checked, while I was gone.. He picked me up in the golf cart and we got produce here and went back home. I got three peaches,  zucchini and he got a gator jerky. Couple days later I had to throw the peaches away, no good. We had left over fried rice for lunch. Jim updated me on the truck, they were only a place for Collision so they don't look at the tires. But he did get an estimate around $1500, after our 500.00 deductible. Then the insurance called, and you have to explain everything yet again.

He tried calling his Mom but no answer,  she called him back later and they got to talk, we both took a shower and had a lot of people to text.
We had to run to Walmart, we finally got out to leave Cam and Diane from Canada we're here in their Cricket. We chatted with them for a few minutes then we headed to Walmart got a few things Jim got beer. We came home and grilled a burger and made zucchini fries and ate outside, put everything away before the bugs came out, we watched a little TV before bed.

  2. So good the man was willing to be a witness. Most people would have looked and then driven away.
