Travel day to Gulf Shores Alabama State Park

Travel day to Gulf Shores Alabama State Park
Our first State Park

November 15, 2022

So Todd and Sheila recommended this Park.
We worked into our travel day a stop at a Buc-ee's for lunch on the way, as it was only half an hour away from the park.
We stopped and went inside.
Here's a picture of the brisket sandwiches as they were making them,
then they wrap them up and people just come and take them.
They have to put them out that fast. We got a ham and cheese, Jim got a brisket and a pork sandwich. We got some of their Buc-ee's chips, and Nuggets and I got a good pound of pulled pork, to put in fridge and,  to eat later. We ended up going out to the RV to eat, total cost about $53 and we got a total including today's lunch, eight meals out of that.  It was so good, went back inside shopped a little more, Jim got a cup of coffee and it was so good we bought a bag of Buc-ee's coffee, and a few other little things.
Here a cool Yellowstone T shirts.
Here is a picture of Jim shopping, a rair site.
Went back out to the RV and hit the road with only half an hour to go.
Once we arrived at Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama we checked in. She told us where our site was but not how to get there,  until Jim asks.

Didn't find out till we were pulling up to the site that she didn't tell us to come in from the right direction, as we were on the wrong side of the road.  Jim had to  pull on to another road, I got out and he had to do a three-point turn at an intersection in the campground to head back and enter from the right direction.
Here's a picture of our site, way up from Jim, and you can see from here as we were walking up to our rig how alot of  the sites are laid out parallel to the road. Kind of like a horseshoe driveway pull through, coming in going back out. I really like the layout, just got bad directions to enter. Not all the sites are like that.

After we got situated and Jim opened the door as I opened the door to go in I heard the refrigerator beeping. Somehow the freezer door came open and I couldn't get it closed again, it was jammed. Jim had to put the slide out to get more room. Trying to make sure nothing was behind the drawer, there wasn't anything. He just had to manhandle it and get it back on the track. Now it works great the temperature did get up to 21°. But it was fine, back down to minus two in a very short time. I have the temperature minder to monitor it from the truck as we travel. But it's for the fridge. I don't have one in the freezer, just in the freezer out front.. Might have to rethink that. We finished getting set up this is going to be a great place to explore.

November 16th
In the late morning we decided to go for a walk in the park and headed towards a restaurant on the map didn't seem like it would be too far. Turned out round trip was a good Four Mile Walk. Was wonderful day a little chilly.
We arrived at the restaurant called The Perch at The  Lodge hotel.
The hostess asked we were with the group there and I said no, then I asked what the group was.  She said there was a big detectives convention going on. Then I started looking around at everyone, and they all did look like the stereotypical Detective you would imagine from TV shows.
They had a wonderful buffet lunch with a chicken, broccoli Rob, potatoes, and cannoli for dessert. Here's a picture of my plate
and of all the cannolis. It was a beautiful restaurant we really enjoyed it.
Then we cut through the parking lot and walked back towards our campsite. We took notice to this sign about the parking lot.
was really interesting.
We got back to the RV and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Today we decided to take another suggested road trip to FlorBama, on the Florida Alabama line.
It was a cool little bar area with live music, they have 5 different bars with music all over,  it's in Orange Beach.  Here are pictures from the area.
Here apparently hanging your bra up here is a thing.
I didn't...
We had a drink and later took off and stopped at a Publix and a Walmart and stopped at this really cool place to get shrimp.
They steamed it for you while you waited. It was so good I made some jambalaya with grilled sausage and chicken added some of the shrimp. It was so good later we walked a little bit around the park and got to see the building that had a lot of reptiles Turtles snakes, there was some birds and an owl who just stared at me into my soul. They were out back. Looks like it would be a very busy place in the summer with all the things they had going on with the animals, and educating the public on them.

Today we decided to take a big walk in the park. You can walk all around the campground amongst the RVs. Or you can take the many many trails that we've all through the campground. We ended up walking over 5 miles total.
What a beautiful place, saw a lot of deer tracks along the way. When we were almost back and in the campground again, we stopped and talked with a couple that was outside. They said they rode their e-bikes around the other day and hit about 12 miles and didn't even come nowhere close to seeing everything.
Saw a cool sunset and we were finished for the rest of the night.

  1. This is funny. We went to the Bucees today that just opened a bit north of us. About 45 miles. Finished up Christmas shopping. No, we didn't get any of the Yellowstone Tees. But we did get a sign that we will give to Jim next stop here. As soon as I saw it I thought of Jim.
