Tour Fort Sumter and Charleston, Crew potluck

Tour of Fort Sumter and Charleston, Crew potluck

Sunday May 5, 2024

This morning we got up and had breakfast on our own. Packed up for the day. Couldn't believe we were ready before 9:30. So we walked up to the crew.  Steve and Nancy took us for the days tour.
First we went to tour Fort Sumter.
When we arrived, first we found out the mystery of why we hadn't gotten the pictures of us all together the other day. I guess the employee dropped the ball and no one in our group actually paid for the digital picture version. So Nancy and I took care of that.

Then we boarded a boat to get to Fort Sumter, as it's on an island. The crew was able to all sit together at three different tables.
I got to officially talk to more people and get to know them on the ride over.
Great view of USS Yorktown, that we were just on.
Once we arrived we had a tour guide give us some history.
Really hot standing in the blazing sun. Then we walked around we only had an hour. Wasn't long enough, never is. We went into a museum. Cindy got us a  National Park stamp for our passports.
The Canon dates back from the Civil war, when radical advances in technology increased power, range and accuracy.
A closer look at the wall reveals Union artillery shells embedded in the brick. They were fired during one of the longest sieges in US military history
Then we boarded the boat again to return. Once we disembarked the boat, Steve and Nancy asked us what we were up to for the day. I said we got nothing going,
so he generously drove us around and gave us a tour of the beautiful homes in Charleston.
Then he parked at an Central Open Air Market.
He stayed with the truck while the three of us walked around. We grabbed a sandwich, and saw the horse and carriage where they took a tour the other day $50. each.
She was telling us a lot of the things they learned on that tour in the truck.
One fun fact, was the more rod iron around the homes, the more affluent and wealthy the owners were.
We also went into a Tervis store. I bought a cup that was from there, but at a thrift store, with a Florida sticker in it. But it did not have a lid, so I was super excited to get a lid to fit it.

Nancy and I loved these glasses, I think they're on both of our list for the next time purchase.
After we returned to Steve in the truck we had a lovely drive back to the campground.
I made cookies on the Ninja outside for the burger and hot dog potluck tonight.
Then we had a visit from a neighbor, that was waiting for us to be outside. Rachel and DJ he was a truck driver I believe and is interested in getting a HDT for his fifth wheel. Gave her a tour of the inside they were super nice.

Teresa and Gary stopped by for a visit while I finished up the cookies.
Later we walked down for our potluck all together. I helped Chef Steve make his Smashburger sliders.
The crew again brought tons of food, probably could have fed the whole campground. LOL,
Billy and Cindy's beautiful MH in the back.
we all sat and talked together as we all love to do. As usual the bugs shut us down about 9:00 p.m.
