Flying to Iowa Day 1

Flying to Iowa Day 1

Tuesday February 20, 2024

This morning we got up at 4:00 a.m.. Carla picked us up at 4:45. So glad I got a lot of things ready yesterday.
We drove with Carla to the airport, cannot thank her enough, she dropped us off, we went inside the airport and Jim said "where's my phone. "
I said are you kidding me, he said no I'm not kidding you, stop saying that.

I called his phone and Carla called me back. She heard it ring, but couldn't reach it.
She had to loop back around, to give him his phone. I ran to the bathroom. Got his phone back. What a way to start the trip.
Then we walked through the airport realized, gate 47 is not where we're leaving from, it was changed. Now we are 44. Jim had to refresh the United app.
Going through security was a whole other thing. We had to remove our shoes, put everything in the bins. Including cell phones, Electronics Etc. We got on the other side after going through a body scanner. They had the bag with the food flagged, and Jim's backpack with our Electronics, mainly the hotspot and Garmin RV. When they realized it was in there, they made him pull the Garmin RV out, to rescan. Then we had to wait and wait for it to come out.  She had me stand by her as they opened the food bag, and briefly look through, all is well. We gathered our stuff, and that's when we found the right gate.
Now we're on the first plane.
We landed in Chicago O'Hare airport at 9:00 Central Time. No time to grab a bite to eat before we leave.
Found the connecting flight for Sioux City Iowa.
This aircraft is alot smaller. So small we had to check 2 of our bags.
You could see the pilot from the front where we sat.
So many cool shots from the air. We flew over a large body of water that looks really Frozen. Don't like seeing that.
Missouri River
We arrived in Sioux City Iowa just before 12:30. Can't believe we're here.

We had a message from Ron and Jen they were picking us up.
Pile of dirty melting snow, yuck.
Then we drove to Culver's for lunch, they treated us which was very nice.

We got to chat and get to know them, and start talking about the truck.
Once we finished lunch, he drove us to Sam's Club nearby, which is where he had it parked.
A wonderful shot when we first saw the truck and the Smart car together. Jen said she was so sad to get rid of the Smart car, as she loved it.
Then we came back and took the car off, Jim and I both drove it around Sam's Club. He showed us how to put it back on.
Then Jim drove the truck and he took it out on the highway. The brakes were very touchy, so he had it bucking a little bit. Lol, Will take some getting used to.
Once we got back to Sam's Club, Jim realized the check engine light was on. It was throwing a code. Ron spent a lot of time trying to figure it out.
We even drove over to the Volvo dealer, after Ron called him and he put it on the computer.
He couldn't clear the code, it came right back on.
We came back to the Sam's Club parking lot. Ron played with it a lot. He said he was doing some things on it and he tried to reset it. Long story short, we had a decision to make.

He got the code to go away and we were still very nervous. He said he felt confident in after resetting everything, it wouldn't come back. He said if you have any issues after you, leave I will come get you. Which was very nice, but the whole scenario is scary.

We did call Scott, who now has a Newell MH, we recently met that probably will be selling his HDT for advice. He is now known as our truck guy. Lol
He was very helpful.
We loved everything else about the truck. Decided to go with Blind Faith I guess you could call it.
Decided to complete the transaction for purchase.
Alot different doing everything here in Iowa with South Dakota plates.
After we were all finished, we ended up using the bathroom at McDonald's, getting situated in the truck with all our stuff, frozen food now in the fridge.
We drove for a while, everything was great. We ended up staying at Walmart parking lot.
I opened up our bag with the electronics and realize the Garment RV was not in there. We couldn't believe it. Apparently when we took it out for them to rescan it, never realized we never picked it back up again.
So I called and left a message with lost and found in the airport. See what happens with that.
Jim was concerned there was no RVs there, I said it's not Walmart parking camping season in Iowa in February, lol.
We ended up buying some blankets and sheets, a few grocery items to get us through the next couple days. We had a great first night in the truck.
Beautiful sunset.
It's going to get a little cold overnight. Started the truck up about 2:30 a.m. gets warm in there quick. Especially for me on the top bunk bed. LOL.
