Today we woke up and it was cold. We had our coffee and a leisurely breakfast and then got ready to go to the New Horizon Open House, in Junction City Kansas.
He thought we were going to stop for a quick errand on the way, but didn't have time, running a little late. We arrived about 11:30 and went inside. The group was gathered together, the first thing we saw was Switch Crew, Connie and David. So exciting.
We said hello with hugs. Got our picture taken, everybody was looking at us. But Who cares.
I did ask question if anybody here was going to HDT Rally at least 1/3 of the group is. Awesome...
Our tour was with Austin, and Connie and David. It was nice to get to know them and Austin a little better.
It was great to see inside the facility. It's amazing what they do...
Almost finished, they only make 25, to 30 a year. They have pride in workmanship.
They are now certified to do MorRyde independent suspension, which we already did. But they also do FlexArmor roofs, which I would love to have done. This was on display
Once the tour was over we were starving, it was late, decided to make a stop at Cracker Barrel for a quick lunch. I saw this Sign inside thought it was funny.
Then we headed to Acorn Campground for open rig walkthroughs of New Horizons.
There was about 20 rigs for us to walk through. There was three for sale that were new, but didn't have an owner. Beautiful toy hauler with black and white paint. Was a sad story of health issues in the family and they never did take possession of the New Horizon. Sad.
One of the first we saw had a rear living room, Jim called a man cave. Middle kitchen and then bedroom, bathroom upstairs. It was 45 ft long fantastic floor plan. Great separation of spaces.
Then we continued on. Speaking with all the owners was really fun. Then we finally got to Jennie and Jim's New Horizon, beautiful blue color.
We met them in 2017, when our rig was fairly new too. They had just picked up theirs shortly after. It was an RV Dreams Rally. Back in the day before Switch It Up existed. It was wonderful to see them again, she was very surprised. I wasn't even sure she'd remember us. She did a great double take when she turned around and saw us.
The last New Horizon we went into. The people look so familiar. Elizabeth and Wade. There was a young girl in there said she was looking for the people in the truck with the Flyers license plate, and Hassler diesel sticker on the back. She is from the area and her mom still lives there. It was so funny she said she was asking everyone. Someone even asked her if she found us yet.
Then Elizabeth offered Jim a Margarita. They were making the vegan chili. We talked all about switch it up, they will be a perfect crew member and very near future it sounds like. Austin came in and she mentioned switch it up, he's like I know Todd and Sheila. She said why didn't you tell us.
I should have been in PR.
Then we continued on. It took over 3 hours to go through them all.
Another rig we went into, first we heard her voice she was very southern. They seem very familiar to us, they said the same.
Then we realized we had met them at the Hershey RV show, as they were buying their New Horizon. We chatted with them for quite a long time that day.
As they say if I knew then, what I feel like I know now. I would have looked for a used New Horizon, and an HDT. You don't know what you don't know.
Then we went up to the bathrooms and wanted to fill a couple water jugs. Since we're boondocking with electric, I wanted to dump some in the Berkey. They had a laundry sink, easy to fill, but the water smelled horrible, and you can only get out really warm water. So we only filled up two. Never did use it, I dumped it out later.
Then we went back down, they were doing a group photo as we went back.
They were having a little gathering and grilling burgers. One couple was vegan, Wade and Elizabeth, they had an awesome vegan chili. I couldn't finish it, I took some home. Jim had burger, I had a grilled chicken dog.
Then Cole gave a great thank you speech to all the Ambassadors .
Then we headed out about 7:00. We said goodbye to everyone, they were all so welcoming to the New Horizon family.
On the drive home Jim stopped for diesel and then picked up some beer. Totally forgot I wanted to go to Aldi's and get eggs and milk.
What a fantastic day today was.
